It’s a belated match report as I had to wait till I got home to type it up. The result was very harsh on the young Rangers side who matched a very good Ajax side and really deserved to take something from the game, hitting the frame of the goal on no fewer than four occasions, including a missed penalty.
Rangers were first to threaten and some good play ended with Ross McCausland bursting into the right side of the penalty area where he forced Stem Kremers to block the shot with an outstretched foot. Ajax responded when Silvano Vos was sent through but he pulled his shot wide of Jacob Pazikas’s right hand post.
There was eleven minutes on the clock when the home side took the lead, Skye Vink converting Chahine Van Bohemen’s cross from the left at the near post. Rangers then had a free-kick on the edge of the box and right of centre but Robbie Fraser’s effort was straight at the keeper.
Around the midpoint of the half Robbie Ure sent Ross McCausland down the right and he picked out Charlie Lindsay with his cutback but the midfielder shot high over. Just before the hour mark Charlie Lindsay sent a free-kick from close to the right hand byline to the back post, Connor Allan’s header looked destined for the net but struck the inside of the keeper’s left hand post and stayed out. Ajax immediately broke to the other end and doubled their lead. David Kalokoh passed to Chahine Van Bohemen on the left and he played the ball across goal to present Stanis Indumbo-Muzambo with a simple finish.
Jacob Pazikas was then called into action, stretching to push Silvano Vos’s shot from around twenty five yards over. Eight minutes before the break Rangers reduced the deficit, Charlie Lindsay sent a free-kick from the left beyond the back post where Robbie Ure headed back across goal and Lewis MacKinnon swept the ball high into the net. The last chance of the half saw Zak Lovelace cut in from the left but his shot was straight at Stem Kremers.

There was almost an hour on the clock before we seen the first real chance of the second half, Robbie Ure exchanged passes with Zak Lovelace on the left to hit the byline, his cutback picked out Paul Nsio but he shot over. With twenty-five minute remaining Paul Nsio on the right passed inside to Ross McCausland, from his shot from the edge of the box Stem Kremers dived low to his right to get a hand to the ball and divert it up and onto the crossbar and over.
A minute later Charlie Lindsay took a short corner on the right to Robbie Fraser and his cross to the back back post saw Lewis MacKinnon arriving to head against the post before clashing into the upright but he was okay to continue after brief treatment. Midway through the half Rangers had a great chance to draw level, Ross McCausland controlled a clearance from Jacob Pazikas wide on the right, he cut inside and passed to Robbie Ure inside the penalty area where he was upended for a clear penalty. Charlie Lindsay stepped up sending Stem Kremers diving to his right but the shot rebound of the keeper’s left hand post.
With the final quarter hour approaching Connor Allan broke into the right side of the box with Stem Kremers saving the shot diving to the right. The hosts them missed a great chance with six minutes remaining, Silvano Vos broke into the left side of the box and played the ball across goal to Oualid Agougil who shot over.
Deep into injury time Rangers were awarded a free-kick on the left hand angle of the box, Bailey Rice’s shot was heading for the top corner but Stem Kremers dived high to his right to claw the ball away. With Jacob Pazikas up for the corner a brilliant headed clearance from Olivier Aertssen under his own crossbar prevented what would have been a deserved equaliser for Rangers.
